Anne Rice “Quits Christianity”

Many are familiar with Anne Rice’s spiritual journey from Roman Catholicism and back again. Just today she announced that she has had it with Christianity and has quit.

In her own words, from the Huffington Post article, which pasted her FB status updates:

On my Facebook account–where all true theological discourse happens–I posted the link to her announcement and the responses have been mixed. Some think it is all contrived, a PR boost for her next book. Others think she is being theologically naive to think she can continue in her Christian journey alone. Others think this is both genuine and understandable.

Feel free to post your thoughts, in a non-disputatious manner.

We are admonished not to put new believers into positions of leadership, yet we fail to recognize the defacto leadership position into which she was thrust by her notoriety. Shame on the ubiquitous us for attempting to glom on to that notoriety and push her into speaking for our pet programs. There but for grace go we.

When you are in the spotlight for whatever reason, you are constantly bombarded with things that are beyond the scope of your knowledge and maturity and expected to answer correctly, and politically correctly. Why do we ask prospective Miss Americas anything to do with politics or morality or …or…?

I will praise God for her personal devotion to Christ and trust him to grow her in His image, no matter what trials and temptations she is facing now.
